DHULIKHEL HOSPITAL/KATHMANDU UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL, NEPAL

You are cordially invited to participate in the 2015 inaugural mission to Dhulikhel Hospital in Nepal. This 225-bed community supported hospital is expanding services to 2.5 million Nepalese to include full cardiac services. The cardiology department is currently providing angiograms and newly begun interventional cardiology procedures in-house. They are now prepared to begin a full cardiac surgery program and have asked for the support of CardioStart International. The local team members have acquired some early education in their areas of responsibility and look to our team for hands-on learning.

Nepal Mission 2015 Update!

On April 25, 2015 a massive earthquake, registering at 7.8, struck Nepal outside of Kathamandu, with aftershocks rippling as far as to Pakistan and Bangladesh. This powerful earthquake demolished a great deal of the country and many people are in dire need. As CardioStart International was already scheduled to be there on a mission, we will continue our humanitarian efforts, and provide heart related medical care as well as emergency medical relief for the affected people. Due to the situation, many aspects of the mission have now changed.

Margo Scott, a Clayton Rotarian, works for Cardiostart International that provides medical services to underserved regions of the world. She was scheduled to head to Dhulikel Hospital, Nepal with her team May 1 – 16 on a cardiology and teaching mission.

On Saturday, a massive 7.8 magnitude earthquake hit Nepal and neighboring countries, killing more than 3,700 people and injuring thousands of others.

The earthquake leveled buildings and caused landslides in rural areas. Aftershocks have led many to sleep in the streets for safety. Nepal is one of the poorest countries in the world. With the earthquake, phone lines are down, roads are badly damaged, and hospitals are running out of supplies. Because of that, a major search and rescue effort which is required will be especially tough.
