Miroslav Peev, MD
Dr. Miroslav P. Peev is a board-certified cardiothoracic surgeon and Clinical Assistant Professor at SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital in Madison, Wisconsin. With extensive international training and a strong academic background, Dr. Peev specializes in advanced cardiac and thoracic surgical procedures, including minimally invasive and robotic techniques.
Dr. Peev completed his cardiothoracic surgery fellowship in the Cardiac Surgery Track at the University of Chicago, following chief residency training in general surgery at New York University/Bellevue Hospital. He began his surgical training at Tufts Medical Center and further developed his clinical foundation in Switzerland at Bern University Hospital and Limmattal Hospital. He earned his MD from the University of Cologne School of Medicine in Germany, graduating in the 95th percentile.
In addition to his clinical training, Dr. Peev pursued postdoctoral research at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical College and Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard Medical School, focusing on novel surgical technologies, device development, and clinical outcomes. His research contributions include numerous peer-reviewed publications in leading surgical and cardiothoracic journals, as well as innovations such as patented gastrointestinal stent technologies.
Dr. Peev has held several academic and leadership roles, including Co-Director and Chief Editor for the TrueLearn ABSITE and American Board of Surgery question bank and clinical advisor positions for multiple healthcare innovation initiatives. He has also contributed to global healthcare efforts, including serving as a clinical advisor for the StopCOVID-19 Special Operations Group.
Board-certified by the American Board of Surgery and eligible for certification by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery, Dr. Peev is licensed to practice in multiple states, including Wisconsin, Illinois, and New York. He is the recipient of multiple awards for surgical research and innovation, reflecting his commitment to advancing the field.
Fluent in German, English, and Bulgarian, Dr. Peev brings a global perspective to his work in patient care, research, and surgical education.
Dr. Peev is actively involved in global cardiac surgery initiatives through CardioStart, where he has led adult aortic surgical missions in Tanzania and participated in international surgical outreach efforts in Enugu, Nigeria, as well as Tanzania and Zambia. His global work reflects a strong commitment to expanding access to life-saving cardiac care in underserved regions.
