is pleased to announce the inaugural
adult cardiac surgery mission
June 23 – 30 in Lagos, Nigeria.
Despite having the largest population in Africa, the country of Nigeria has no established cardiac surgical programs. An estimated 95% of all Nigerians live without essential medical services.
In light of this urgent need, CardioStart has decided to expand cardiovascular surgery programs in this country by organizing this mission to Lagos in June and another mission to Benin City in October.

Lagos
is the most populous city on the African continent and one of the fastest growing cities in the world. In 2015, the Lagos metropolitan area’s population was estimated to be around 16 million people.
CardioStart volunteers will be assisting the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital in developing a self-sustaining cardiac surgery program for adult patients. This mission will be a meaningful opportunity for our volunteers to serve a community that is in great need of assistance.

  • 1 Perfusionist
  • 1 Cardiologist
  • 1 Intensivist
  • 1 Anesthesiologist
  • 1 Nurse (Scrub / Operating Room)
  • 6 ICU Nurses
  • 1 Echo Tech
  • 1 Biomedical Engineer
  • 1 Respiratory Therapist
  • 1 Database Researcher
Note: Volunteers are welcome to embark on tours after the mission is complete at their own expense/risk. The city of Lagos is a cultural center known as “the Big Apple of Africa” and is famous for it’s nightlife and music scene. Beaches line the Lekki Peninsula east of the city, or tourists can head inland to explore wildlife sanctuaries and trails.
