Brigid Scanlan Eiynck died recently, and up until her death, was a senior Vice President for the prestigious company Scanlan International, considered to be the finest surgery instrument maker in the world.
This mission was CardioStart’s 5th adult cardiac surgery mission to Clinica Corozonas Unidos, in Santo Domingo. HeartCare Dominicana, Inc. facilitated the team’ presence during the week and arranged for patients to be seen for this humanitarian surgical program. Several complex valve repairs/replacements were performed with intensive involvement with the local team. Unique to this hospital, two Off Pump Coronary Artery Bypass cases were done. One Atrial Septal Defect repair was carried out using an Amplatz device. All cases were successful.

Fishing Tournament May 12, 2017 Sponsorship Levels: Cardiostart will host its Fourth annual fishing tournament leaving from the Hula Bay Restaurant 5200 W. Tyson Ave. Tampa, FL. Breakfast starts at 7am and the boats depart promptly at 8am. As we begin a new year, it’s a time to reflect on how the past year has shaped us in our missions. Thanks to the help of our volunteers, throughout 2016 we accomplished 7 missions and over 60 successful surgeries! It is with great sadness that we report the passing of a dear friend. Yves secured his PhD in medicine at the famous Université Pierre et Marie Curie (Paris VI) in 1979. Following this he had medical and perfusion-related experience in many prestigious French hospitals. He conducted pioneering technical advances in pediatric cardiac surgery, in cardio-respiratory management and for improved management of several types of complications. Great Job Volunteers!! This past season we have managed to send not one, but TWO shipments FULL of medical supplies to be donated abroad! First in August, our amazing team in Tampa, Fl, packaged and sent off a 40 foot container full of lifesaving equipment, a balloon pump and an echo machine to Dhulikhel, Nepal. Then in November our amazing team in Eugene, OR followed with an additional 40 foot container on its way to Lagos, Nigeria! [...]
